PM Modi to inaugurate JNPT terminal built in record time

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate phase-1 of the Fourth Container Terminal (FCT) of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, today in Mumbai. The project which costs Rs 4,719 crores was built in the last three years and has been completed within the estimated time frame.

PM Modi had himself laid the foundation stone of the project in 2015 and talked about how his government's focus is not just laying the foundation stone but also completing the work in record time. With the terminal being operational, JNPT will double its container handling capacity.

This new FCT is estimated to add a capacity of 24 lakh containers per year in phase-1  and after completion of phase-2 the capacity of the port would be 100 lakh containers per year. The terminal's deep births will enable it to handle mother ships and also the biggest container ships from a quay length of 1 km and cranes that can reach 22 rows wide or greater.
